Christo & Jeanne Claude

The Caliente train depot, built in 1923 by the Parkinsons, appears to be the latest victim of those two fabric-weilding fiends.

When I asked in the grocery about the doughnuts, I was told they made them there but the oven was broken. Someday...eventually.

Journey to Nepal

Steve, Michelle's brother, has skydived, bungee jumped on the New Zealand Canyon Swing and when he went to see mountain gorillas and took a side trip to climb Kilimanjaro, he got an armed escort as there is a bounty on white folks. He recently returned from a trekking adventure to Everest Basecamp.

Panaca Market

Michelle and I travel the world to find the finest doughnuts. Up 'til now, Irish Maid in Fort Smith, Arkansas has held the top spot. But we now have, at least until Michelle tries 'em, a tie.

Panaca Market makes 'em right there. I spied the last chocolate-covered creme filled tittering behind the YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE sign.

I took it out to the edge of town under the shade of a big cottonwood where I could give it my full attention. The creme filling was a suprise. Perfect sweetness combined with with an equally perfect texture. I was DEFINITELY going back for more.

The tiny strüdels are delicacies non-pareil with strong notes of The Fatherland in every morsel. The cherry- infused bearclaw was a new sensation! And the down- pillow-esque quality of each was what sweet dreams are made of.

Unlike my buddy and his Indian motorcycle, who, when I asked where he was off to, would reply with something like The Roswell Dairy Queen; it was an excuse to ride. This is no excuse...this is a DESTINATION.

Hurricane

It's the shoulder months; in this case, the weeks; usually about six. Depending on elevation, one minute you'll be pulling out the down. The next, when the sun comes out, you'll be pulling off your shirt.

There's fresh snow on the mountains in the northwest and it rained pretty good at Smithsonian Butte. Only a light sprinkle at Colorado City.

Betwixt

Hurricane & Fredonia there's a large canyon to the north that catches the eye. This year I finally made the stop and hiked back to the large pouroff at the back of a small side shoot.
