They stopped and graciously accepted an Advocates For the West brochure. On their way out I begged a tour. Mark said he was pleased with the RAM 5500 diesel, but thought the 3500 sufficient for most purposes.
The S280, former military shelter, was designed to fit inside a container -- easily shipped and easily hidden. Mark added the utilities and had lived in it for seven years while still working. He carries 50 gallons of water, 450 watts of solar (plenty, he said) with which he runs two refrigerators, an Isotherm and an Engle. I believe he said the Isotherm has a "swing motor," a motor with only one moving part. He said ARB refrigerators are similar but use a Copeland motor.
I think he said the rig, sans water, crossed the scale at 17,000 pounds. It appeared to have an air-conditioner & heating system.
The "cubic mini" is made in Canada and efficiently heats the interior.

You like it? it looks very... German. From here it looks like a great way to live. Why is the panel so big, i wonder what it all does? or is that a remnant of it's former use?
ReplyDeleteI didn't think to ask his heritage. He DID say he was an engineer.
DeleteI'm not sure. They have two refrigerators, one with a freezer compartment. I didn't see a tv.
