Checking The Perimeter

The Experimental Range is a large tract owned by the University of Arizona. The part I'm exploring looks as if it hasn't been grazed in a while. I've only seen grass like this one other time...in the Animas Mountains in Southwestern New Mexico that The Turners bought and were rehabilitating.

I plan to make some phone calls next year to learn what this is all about.

There's some sturdy fence around it.

  1. Quite the vibes:) There is all this talk here about protecting 30% of the land. (Yukon) I imagine in NM which has few people, but lots of cows? that 30% would be a huge bonus to nature to sustain biodiversity.

    1. Yes! The west was initially damaged by the Spanish who brought 600,000 sheep with them.

The cattle barons (British investors) destroyed the central plains.

Westward expansion in the late 1800s and early 1900s finished off the remainder.

Some have said it will evolve instead of recover.

  2. There are a few plots in Caprock Canyon that are fenced off to keep the local bison herd out of them. They are part of a study to determine and quantify the impact bison have on the eco-system. It's expected that the study will provide hard data that bison create a more diverse eco-system.

By the way, I think the East Vibe is a little flat and needs a bit of tuning.
