White Birds in Afternoon Light - Calipatria, California

I glanced off to the distance and saw a white cloud evaporate....then appear. I pulled over to watch. They'd completed the high drama, but I caught the denouement.

Near Calipatria, California, down the street from the Imperial Wildlife Refuge, Wister Unit.

  1. Brawley got its name because the town had a bra maker settle there in the late 1800's named Jake and his wife nell. The Imperial land company stole his water rights, burned his silo and killed his stock. Jake would'nt leave. The only woman within 50 miles, his gal made bra's for the wagon train women out of burlap sacks and hence the name bra'lady. The imperial land company head honcho, a mex from down south was worried jake would seek retribution, so he named the town Braley, Jake was pissed so he made em change the spelling.
I used to hang out around there in the 70's, eat acid, ride dirt bikes. Heard the true story from the bra ladys kids.

    1. Not sure. I've seen egrets in flocks but never that many. Had to be large birds to be seen at that distance.
